Welcome to LASIK-Flap.com, where you will find documentation of the history of the refractive surgery industry, and also current medical studies documenting damage to the visual health of patients by LASIK and other forms of refractive surgery.
We do not endorse refractive surgery because there is abundant evidence in current medical literature that corneal refractive surgery compromises the ocular health and visual quality of the eye. We believe corneal refractive surgery is a violation of the physicians’ Hippocratic oath to “first, do no harm”.
We will expose the LASIK industry’s motivation to downplay and hide complications from the public. We will explain how a patient may achieve 20/20 post-op visual acuity and still have devastating, life-altering complications. We will provide data from clinical trials demonstrating that an alarming percentage of patients suffer from so-called “side-effects” and “symptoms” such as painful dry eyes and impaired night vision which may be permanent and debilitating after LASIK.
We have a PATIENT FORUM where patients may seek help and advice from other patients, and discuss legal strategies and outlets for filing complaints about refractive surgery and refractive surgeons. We will share our bad experiences with refractive surgeons so that other patients may be forewarned.
Our goal is to present a body of evidence sufficient to educate patients about consequences of refractive surgery before they embark on this elective, irreversible, and medically unnecessary procedure. Only when patients are completely informed can they give their “informed consent” for refractive surgery. More than 8 million people in the United States have been denied informed consent for LASIK due to lax FDA clinical trial protocols and poor oversight. We'll show how and when the FDA let us down in the approval process.
Our initiatives include:
- Exposing scientific and ethical lapses that led to approval of LASIK, and the hype surrounding newer technologies such as "wavefront" custom LASIK and “blade-free” LASIK.
- Increasing public awareness of refractive surgery complications and poor refractive surgery outcomes.
- Providing guides to debunking "expert witnesses" who testify on behalf of refractive surgeons in medical malpractice lawsuits.
- Publication of legal complaints filed against "expert witnesses" who testify on behalf of refractive surgeons in medical malpractice lawsuits.
- Informing patients and the public about illegal advertising tactics by LASIK providers, and how to file a complaint with the FTC.
- Publication of excerpts of key peer-reviewed studies that reveal short and long-term complications of refractive surgery.
- Helping patients understand the root cause of their post-refractive visual disturbances and pain.
- Informing patients about the FDA MedWatch program which allows patients to report problems resulting from LASIK.
- Exposing “junk science” published by LASIK industry participants.
- Providing balance to the hype about LASIK.
